INTERACTIONS
Intraspecific Interactions
-Male finds mate by bending over with his tail tucked in, puffing his chest out, and calling.
-Female calls back when they meet
-Owls do not interact very often, they like to travel alone for convenient hunting
-When owls do live together, it is called a parliament
Interspecific Interactions
-Because it has such a wide array of preys, there is not much competition for owls
-There are few predators of owls, too, so they are in no worry about food
-Only competition is Red-Tailed Hawks

ECOLOGICAL NICHE
-Very wide range in diet: rats, squirrels, flying squirrels, mice, lemmings, voles, shrews, bats, armadillos, muskrats, martens, weasels.
-Prey is mostly killed with owl’s talons.
-Prey is almost always swallowed whole.
-Secondary or tertiary consumer, because they are at the top of the chain in their ecosystems most often, but are easily eaten by larger animals.

HABITAT
The owl has a fairly specific habitat preference. Firstly, owls almost always live in the lower branches of trees. Great Horned Owls specifically like to live in places such as parks, which provide an environment that is populated, yet allows room for the bird to move around. Definitely keep in mind, however, that the habitat will change from bird to bird considering the biome it lives in.
BIOME
The Great Horned Owl lives in biomes across the world such as: deciduous, coniferous, mixed forests, tropical rainforests, pampas, prairie, mountainous areas, deserts, subarctic tundra, rocky coasts, mangrove swamp forests, and urban areas.
